“Back in 1985, Peter Rix the then Head of facilities at the Barbican Centre gave two eager young sales guys a break and they drove away with a van load of Public Waiting Area seating that needed reupholstering. Peter was so impressed with the results that every time they took a van load back, he’d fill it up again and on it went for years… during this time the work included their Cut Above restaurant, The Directors Board Room, Hadrian Seating from all over the complex, The main Concert Hall, The Cinemas, The Red and Blue exhibition halls, the adjoining Guildhall School of Music and through the centre’s owners – The Corporation of London – they also did work at the Queen Victoria Magistrates court at the Mansion House. They also did some work at the house of the then Managing Director of the Barbican. Those two young sales guys are still at the firm 34 years later – one is the Installation Manager (Steve Rogers), the other is the MD (Grahame Jenkins) and one of the upholsterers that did the skilled work is also still with the company – Steve Lotts - now the Reupholstery Manager.”
